Over 20 years ago I moved to Fitzroy North and made sure I stationed myself close to off lead dog parks so that I had great spaces to walk Floyd my beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback and Moka, my little Maltese X Shihtzu.

I found it still didn't allow me enough quality time with my dogs, so I decided to give up being a textile designer along with the long commute back and forth from Kyneton. I set up a local business where Floyd and Moka could come to work with me.

With the help of many hard-working friends.

"We were all young and had a lot less commitments and plenty of free time".

Pet Art opened its doors March 2000.

Now, after almost twenty one years, Pet Art has relocated to our new purpose-built location just 500 meters up the road at 777 Nicholson Street, Carlton North.

Being a mother of two young, energetic boys and doing a major renovation to fit the new premises out: all in a year, when COVID19 has thrown the world upside down has definitely been a huge challenge.

I am both excited and nervous about the relocation.

The constant encouragement and support of my faithful clientele, dedicated staff, wonderful family, and the adaption of a poem (below) that my children learnt at school has helped me remain focused in developing this new venture.

How The Little Pup Learned to Run

“I never can do it,” the little pup said,

As he looked at all the other dogs far ahead.

“I know I should stumble if I try to run.”

“Try!” said the big dog

“It’s lots of fun.”

But the little pup said “I’m afraid I'll fall.”

The big dog nodded “Ah, well, goodbye."

I’m off!” And he ran around under the glorious blue sky.

Then the little pup’s tail wagged at the sight.

Shaking, he took off with all his might.

First cautious, then braver he got.

He ran faster and faster, fear now not.

The big dog looking back could see,

The little pup coming steadily.

Then how the little pup thrilled with pride,

As he ran with the big dogs side by side.

“Oh, how happy I am,” the little pup cried.

“And all because I was brave and tried.”
